play.talk
terms
This translation is here to help you read the page. The English text is the one that applies.
Draft, September 2026 — to be read through by a grown-up who knows the law before launch. Plain words, on purpose.
what this is
play.talk gives a child a talker: an app that turns typed words into pictures and speaks them, with a history of what was said, word lists, and play pages — little pages where the child reaches words by playing. A grown-up opens an account, makes a talker for each child, and pairs the child's devices to it. By making an account you agree to these terms.
accounts
You must be an adult to open an account, and you are responsible for the talkers you make, the grown-ups you invite to them, and the devices you pair. Keep your sign-in email to yourself; anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
subscriptions
- Each talker has its own monthly subscription, on the standard or the unlimited plan. Prices are shown when you subscribe and on your grown-ups' page.
- The first fourteen days of a talker's first subscription are free. You give a card when you start, and nothing is charged until the trial ends. Cancel during the trial and you pay nothing at all. During the trial the talker has the standard plan's allowance, whichever plan you chose; the unlimited plan's begins when the first month is paid for.
- After the trial the subscription renews each month until you cancel, which you can do at any time from the grown-ups' page. It then runs to the end of the month already paid for, and no further payment is taken.
- Except during the free trial, months already paid for are not refunded, unless the law says otherwise or something on our side stopped the talker working.
- The standard plan comes with a monthly allowance of pictures, play page builds and spoken characters; when it is used up the app keeps working with what it already has and the device's own voice until the month turns. The unlimited plan has no allowance of its own, but is for one child's ordinary use: if a talker's use is far beyond that, we may talk to you about it before anything else happens.
- If a payment fails the talker keeps working with the device's own voice, and no new pictures or play pages are made, until the payment is put right.
what the app is, and is not
The pictures, the suggested words and the play pages are made by AI models from the words given to them. They are usually good and sometimes wrong; a picture may not be what you meant, and a play page may not work as asked. Ask again, change it, or use the family's own photos and meanings. play.talk supports a child's communication; it is not a medical device, not therapy, and not a substitute for the advice of the professionals who know your child.
fair use
Do not ask for pictures or play pages that are unlawful, hateful, sexual, or unsafe for a child. What a grown-up types is checked before it is drawn or built, and a refused request is simply refused. We may close an account that keeps trying.
your things
What a family adds — words, meanings, photos, play pages — stays the family's. You can download it all from the grown-ups' page at any time and delete the talker at any time. Pictures drawn from a word alone, and phrases spoken in a voice, are shared between families because they are the same for everyone.
availability
We aim to keep play.talk running all the time, and the app is built to keep working offline with what it already has. We cannot promise it will never be down, and we are not liable for loss that comes from it being unavailable, beyond refunding the days it was.
changes and ending
We may change these terms; we will say so on the grown-ups' page before a change that matters takes effect, and you can cancel if you do not agree. We may end an account that breaks these terms, refunding any month paid for and not yet used.
the law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and nothing in them takes away rights you have as a consumer.
